Quickstart Guides for GeoJot+ Core

Welcome to GeoJot+ Core! Below is a quickstart guide for the program. At any time in the program you can also click on the help button to get context sensitive help for a particular screen. GeoJot+ Core is built on GPS-Photo Link - the world-wide leader in photo mapping software for business.

  1. Download GeoJot+ Core
  2. Activate GeoJot+ Core: Your Account Administrator received an email message with your serial number after registering for GeoJot+. When you open GeoJot+ Core, type in or paste your serial number.
  3. If you are an existing GPS-Photo Link user, migrate your existing projects to GeoJot+ Core. Do this before processing any new data.
  4. Review help available on the start page. GeoJot+ Core begins on a Start page that looks like a webpage. If you have an internet connection this page will update with the latest information from GeoSpatial Experts including important information about any software updates to user tips.
  5. Create lists for GeoJot+ app: Use the List editor found under the Tools menu to create drop-down lists for the GeoJot+ app. Email the list to your mobile devices.
  6. Take pictures: Use the GeoJot+ Mobile App to take photos and enter field data using the lists you created.
  7. Transfer photos: Set up GeoJot+ to transfer the photos wirelessly using Dropbox or download the photos using the USB or other connection to your mobile device.
  8. Process photos: To begin processing photos, click the New Project button at the top of the screen. Give your project a name and allow it to use the Default template for your first report. Next you will see a screen that shows all the steps for processing your photos. These steps are shown as tabs on the left side of the page. There is instructional text at the top of each screen
    • Import Photos: Browse to the place where your photos are stored (often the Dropbox folder where GeoJot+ app sends photos) and select all or some of the photos in one or more folders. Note that GeoJot+ app can separate photos into folders using the attributes associated with that photo. In this way, projects can automatically be grouped into the individual folders. Once you add your photos and make sure they are geotagged, you can simply use the Create Output button and GeoJot+ Core will create output using default settings. Customize your reports by making changes on various tabs. If you have trouble, click the help button.
    • Attribute Editor, Photo Editor, and Watermark tabs:. Default settings allow you to skip these steps, however you may want to change attribute data including photo location using the attribute editor. You can also edit the photo itself including cropping or writing on the photos using the Photo Editor. The Watermark and Shared Output Settings tabs allow you to format how the output will look in your final reports.
    • Select Output: Indicate which kinds of output you want GeoJot+ Core to create. Choose from printable reports (e.g. PDF, Word) or data files (e.g. ShapeFiles, GoogleEarth). Adjust settings specific to those outputs and click FINISH. Your output can be viewed under the Project Manager tab at the top of the screen.
  9. View Output: Go to the Project Manager to view and share reports.
  10. Use templates: Once you get a project just how you want it, go to the Project Manager and check the "Save as Template" box. Next time you want to create the same output simply import the photos and click the Create Output button. GeoJot+ will create new output based on the template project.

*If you are using the Team or Enterprise level, look for the GeoJot+ Core toolbar in ArcGIS. The far right button launches GeoJot+ Core in a separate window. This allows you to use the full functionality of GeoJot+ Core. When you are selecting your output, indicate whether you want to create ESRI Shape Files, File, Personal or Enterprise Geodatabases. Make sure to indicate specifics relating to each output type including whether this output will be created as a new geodatabase or inserted into a existing geodatabase. When you select the Create Output butto, GeoJot+ Core will process photos and display them in ArcGIS automatically. To view Photos in ArcGIS, select the View button on the GeoJot+ Toolbar to activate the hover feature and Set-up button to determine what is displayed in hover and clicking functions.
