GPS Data
Instructions
Select GPS track log data source and the datum / position format.
There are three ways to get the GPS data :
- Read the data directly from a Garmin GPS, Magellan GPS, or the GPS Datalogger.
- Importing GPS data that was saved by another program (or reusing data stored by downloading from a device)
- Using the GPS data already in the photos, or manually entering the position.
Click Next to go to the next screen.
Options
GPS Data Source (Track Logs, Waypoints, Files or Manual)
- Download- After connecting the GPS to the PC's serial or USB port, select to download one of the following from the GPS:
- Garmin Track Logs
- Garmin Waypoints
- Datalogger Track Logs
- Magellan Track Logs
- Garmin USB Track Logs
- Garmin USB Waypoints
- On Port - Select one of these from the drop-down menu:
- "Auto" to scan for device on communications port
- Serial communications port (com port number) connected to the GPS.
- Use GPS data in file - Select to :
- User GPS data in photo or manually enter lat/lon - Select to :
- Use GPS data is embedded in the photos themselves. This requires the use of a camera like the Ricoh, Nikon D1, Kodak DCS, connected to a GPS receiver, that stores the lat/lon in the photo itself.
- Manually enter all the photo positions in the Extra Data screen
NOTE: Users who plan to link Ricoh camera pictures to a separate GPS source during post processing (e.g. Pathfinder office) will use the "Standard Edition" features which are available in the Ricoh Edition. Those options will become visible when the user selects the GPS source. If you choose any option other than "Use GPS data in photo" you will be using the "Standard Edition" features. Use the "Standard" help for specific instructions.
Time Zone
- Time Zone - Select the time zone the Camera time is set to (also the time shown on the GPS receiver).
- Auto adjust for daylight saving time, if needed :
- Select to adjust the time zone to for daylight saving time (if it is active in the selected time zone).
- Uncheck to always use the standard time.
Datum / Position Format
- Select Datum - Opens the Select Datum dialog to choose which datum to use. The Default is WGS 84. Some datum selections require that you select a region with. Choose the region from the drop-down list.
- If your input data is not in WGS-84, you can select the datum here, then check "Disable WGS-84 to Output Datum Transformation". This will cause GPS-Photo Link to not convert the incoming data to the output datum.

- Position Format The lower drop down menu determines how the datum will be displayed. Select from the following :
- Lat / Lon - Degrees, 45.345345 -121.322344.
- UTM - Universal Transverse Mercator, 13 N 1231141 1233455.
- MGRS / USNG - Military Grid Reference Systems / United States National Grid.
- Dutch RD Grid - Grid format for the Netherlands. Automatically selects the Dutch RD Datum.
- British Grid - Grid format for Great Britain.
- Irish Grid - Grid format for Ireland.
- US State Plane (you will be asked to indicate which region)
- HARM
