CartoPac Field Solutions, GeoSpatial Experts Team up
to Provide Photo Mapping Solution for Field Workers
Partnership enables field workers to georeference photos in the field and share the asset info with the enterprise database for office-wide sharing
Thornton, Colo. – 18 November 2008 – CartoPac Field Solutions, powered by Spatial Data Technologies, Inc. ( http://www.cartopac.com), today announced they have teamed up with GeoSpatial Experts ( http://www.
By adding GPS-Photo Link photo-mapping software to the CartoPac Data Interchange (CDI) toolbar, clients can now tie multiple photos of field assets with GPS georeference points. Field workers can view the image on the map display by hovering over a specific GPS point. The hover option allows for quick view of the image and also enables field workers to find all photos in the GIS database related to a specific asset, which increases data efficiency and accuracy for utilities, oil and gas companies, railroad companies and others managing large amounts of geographically dispersed assets.
With the new CartoPac Data Interchange: GPS-Photo Link Edition, both office and field personnel can access the photos from the enterprise GIS using a laptop or a handheld device. This new functionality allows customers to set up the configuration and determine the offset between the camera used and the GPS unit, ensuring accurate date and time stamping.
“Until now, there hasn’t been a good solution for sharing photos between the field and office, or even between multiple field offices. We saw a real need for a technology that makes it easy for field workers to download and view photos and their accompanying GPS data that didn’t require extensive back-office processes to manage,” said Glenn Vlass, president of CartoPac Field Solutions. “GeoSpatial Experts is a known leader at providing software for managing photos and their GPS data, and we’re excited to work with them to solve a problem so many of our customers deal with every day.”
Both the CartoPac Data Interchange for ArcGIS toolbar and the GPS-Photo Link extension are designed for easy installation and use. CartoPac offers full support to all field and office workers using CartoPac Data Interchange: GPS-Photo Link Edition.
“CartoPac is committed to helping their clients ease the flow of information between the field and the office, and we’re thrilled to partner with them to help alleviate the challenges of dealing with images,” said Rick Bobbitt, President of GeoSpatial Experts. “Now, a field worker can click a button in the CartoPac Data Interchange for ArcGIS toolbar and see all of the images associated with their job, including the GPS coordinates, the date and time the photo was taken and more.”
The CartoPac suite of technology includes CartoPac Mobile software for enterprise data collection, which enables field crews to access and manage very large amounts of data on a handheld computer. The CartoPac solution also includes the CartoPac Field Server, which allows the deployment and management of mobile field data collection solutions via the web, and the CartoPac ToolKit, which makes it easy for users to customize the company’s technologies as businesses grow and needs change.
Those in the oil and gas industry have the opportunity to attend a hands-on seminar in Houston, TX on November 19 th to experience how this new technology can help their company. To register, please visit the CartoPac Field Solutions website at ( http://www.cartopac.com/
